Agriculture is built on family, adaptability and planning for the future. On National Ag Day, Union Bank is proud to spotlight Weisenberger Farms, a family-run operation that blends deep generational roots with modern technology and forward‑thinking financial decisions.

A Farm Built Across Generations
The story of Weisenberger Farms began in the 1940s, when Clarence and Josephine Weisenberger worked for Charles Stuart on a 240‑acre farm. With no heirs interested in continuing the operation, the owner sold the farm and homestead to the grandparents in the early 1940s—officially establishing Weisenberger Farms.
In 1972, Charles Weisenberger—son of Clarence and Josephine—took over, expanding the operation from 650 acres to 1,600 acres. Charles’s son, Nick Weisenberger, grew up in the fields and shop alongside his father and took on increasing responsibility over time. In 2017, when his father retired due to health considerations, Nick and his wife, Rebecca, assumed leadership—and have since grown the farm to more than 2,000 acres.
The operation remains proudly family‑run. Rebecca runs every piece of equipment alongside her husband and father‑in‑law, and their children— Josie, Waylon and Ollie —have recently begun helping in the fields.
“Our biggest joy is seeing three generations out farming together.”
A Diverse Crop Operation
Each year, Weisenberger Farms manages a broad crop mix that supports agronomic health and business resilience, including corn, soybeans, wheat, dry beans, oats and cereal rye.
A Full Year on the Farm
The season typically begins in mid‑April and runs into winter. Spring is filled with planting, fertilizing and spraying—often followed by a quick family camping trip before harvest begins.
- Early July: Wheat harvest
- Late July–August: Oats and rye harvest
- Labor Day: Dry bean harvest begins
- Early fall: Soybean harvest and fertilizing/planting wheat
- Late fall: Corn harvest, typically finishing around early December
- Winter: Grain marketing and hauling, equipment maintenance and prep for spring
Despite the demanding schedule, family time matters.
“Even though farming is time‑sensitive, we make time to hunt and fish together.”
Facing Today’s Challenges
Like many farm families, Weisenberger Farms navigates volatile markets and rising input costs.
“My grandfather started the farm, my father grew and expanded it, and now it’s my generation’s responsibility to save it.”
That mindset drives careful decisions and a willingness to adapt.
Farming with Technology and Data
Today, nearly all equipment is guided by onboard computers and auto‑steer. With tools like Climate FieldView, the family tracks real‑time performance and yields—helping them make fact‑based decisions that improve outcomes season after season.
Banking Where You Belong—From Anywhere
When it came time to purchase land and make larger financial moves, Nick Weisenberger needed a bank that understood agriculture—and could support the pace of his operation. That’s when Union Bank entered the picture.
Today, he manages nearly all of his banking through Union Bank’s Virtual Branch and digital banking tools, connecting with a local Virtual Banker by phone, video, chat, text or email—without ever stepping into a branch.
“I operate all of my banking online. It gives me more time to focus on the farm.”
The team connects in person once or twice a year for larger purchases or major decisions.
“Having a bank that understands how a farm operation works is most important to a successful farm.”
This experience reflects what Banking Where UBelong truly means—support that isn’t defined by a zip code, but by trust, understanding and reliability. At Union Bank, community is measured by who stands with you—wherever the work takes you.
Growing Forward
On National Ag Day—and every day—we’re proud to stand alongside families like those behind Weisenberger Farms, supporting operations that honor their past while embracing the future.
